  • Dope  – Weblog wrote in Perl (uses mod_perl). Inspired by Slash/Squish, but intended to be easier to administer and more streamlined.
  • eZ Publish – GPLed community portal/web publishing system. Object-oriented uses PHP, Apache, ImageMagick and MySQL.
  • Geeklog – Fully featured weblog software that runs the Security Geeks website. The over-riding development philosophy for the software is performance, privacy and security.
  • Nope – Another Slashdot-like news/forums package. Uses PHP/MySQL.
  • Phorum – PHP-based message forum application.
  • PHP-Nuke – PHP-Nuke is a web portal and online community system, similar to and inspired by Slash.
  • PHPSlash – PHP-driven weblog system derived from Slash.
  • phpWebLog – Web news management system is written in PHP. Features include story moderation, threaded comments, templating/themes, polls, multi-language translations, RDF import, etc.
  • Slashcode – The site for All Things Slash. Slash is the source code and database that was originally used to create Slashdot and has now been released under the GNU General Public License.

  • SCREEM – Site CReating and Editing EnvironMent is a GNOME/GTK program designed to allow fast creation and maintenance of websites.

  • DIRT – Dynamic Image Rendering Technology – Standalone web server that allows you to create high-quality images and effects on the fly, including the rendering of TrueType fonts, png files with alpha-blending, coloured gradients, blur, and more.
  • GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) – GPL’d application suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. Scriptable, too 🙂

  • KSql – KSql, previously known as KMySql is a KDE database client. It was originally my SQL specific but uses now plugins to access databases likeminiSQL and PostgreSQL.

  • LinuxPlanet: Implementing E-Commerce on Your Linux System – Article previewing TallyMan, Yams, and OpenMerchant.
  • MiniVend – Popular GPL e-commerce package written in Perl.
  • MySQL / PHP shopping cart
  • OpenMerchant – Open Source e-commerce Internet application written in Perl.
  • PhpAuction – Open Source project intended to develop a powerful and flexible web-based auction system. It is written using PHP3 scripting language on a MySQL database engine.

Utilities

  • GIMP clickable Imagemap Plug-in
  • HTML Tidy – Free utility to clean up nasty HTML, including markup generated by specialized HTML editors and conversion tools.
  • rsync – GPL utility that provides fast incremental file transfer. Can be used to keep HTML roots synced across various servers, or to upload changes from staging to production servers.
